I was partially aware I was dreaming in that my dreaming self recognized the job I was doing in the dream was my job in real life. Oddly, it was only that part of the dream I recognized as not real.
I was washing dishes for a restaurant in the dream. My station was outside in sort of a courtyard. It felt like I was in New York and the buildings making up the courtyard were tall red brick. It had a NY city neighborhood feel.
Anyway I looked up and noticed two young girls about 7 or 8 years old playing on their window ledge which was about 4 stories up. High enough they would die or be horribly injured if they fell.
Their ledge was actually fairly wide and deep, like about 6’ wide and maybe 2’ deep. One girl was sitting on some small skateboard type thing that rolled back and forth along the ledge but not in any tracks, just free rolling. The other girl was sitting on the side of the ledge. The were in pajamas and I got the feeling they were out there without their parents’ knowledge.
Being a dream, I didn’t call the police or anything, instead I reasoned that I would just run over there and catch one of them if they fell. But then I thought what if they were too heavy and I couldn’t hold them when they fell because my hands were wet and soapy from the dishes?
Then their dad appeared in the window inside the apartment. I then figured the girls did in fact have permission and it must be ok, and I shouldn’t worry. I basically went back to washing dishes and all was well even though they were still playing on a window ledge 4 stories up!
